Too Much, Too Soon? Reclaiming Time and Energy
I’m not sure about you, but my year started at full speed, and honestly, I already feel like I need a break. The reality, of course, is that it’s not break-time yet… there’s still work to be done, goals to reach, and responsibilities that keep knocking at the door.
There’s so much I want to do, so many places I want to be. And after talking to friends and clients, I’ve realised I’m not alone in this feeling. It seems many of us are in a constant state of motion, and it’s exhausting.
This got me thinking:
What am I so busy with?
And more importantly, is it really worthwhile?
Time is precious, especially when we realise that life isn’t just about work. The more complex our lives become, the more valuable intentional time management becomes. So I took a step back to re-evaluate how I spend my time and what really matters to me.
Here are three questions I asked myself, and maybe they’ll be helpful to you too:
1. What are the most important ‘categories’ in my life that I want to invest my time in?
These are the areas that energise me, give meaning to my days, and keep me aligned with what truly matters.
2. How can I allocate time to each of these?
What would it practically look like to give attention to each area, even if only in small ways?
3. When can I allocate that time?
Is it early mornings? Weekends? A dedicated hour during the week? Being realistic helps it actually happen.
My Life Categories
As I reflect on how I spend my time and energy, I’ve come to realise that living with intention means regularly checking in with the areas of life that matter most to me.
Here’s what my current list of life categories looks like:
-
Spiritual growth and time with God
-
Personal environment and organisation
-
Physical health
-
Emotional health
-
Career growth
-
Personal growth
-
Family
-
Friends
-
Love
-
Finances
-
Social responsibility
-
Play and recreation
Your list may look different, and that’s more than okay. This isn’t about creating a perfectly balanced life at all times. Instead, it’s about cultivating awareness.
When we invest intentionally in the things that nourish and inspire us, we create space for joy, rest, and purpose, even in the middle of a demanding season.
So if it feels like the year took off without waiting for you to catch your breath, you’re not alone.
Take a moment.
Pause.
Reflect.
Re-align.
And remember: your time is a gift. Use it in ways that give life back to you.
With love & hope,
